Humpty Dumpty

January 31, 2013

There is a thread between the marauding hordes of guns running amok across the land and this study about housework and nookie. Namely, it’s that we don’t name the objects of our discussions.

They’re are no criminals, only violent weapons.

The power dynamic isn’t the issue, it’s the division of labor.

Viewed differently, is it the cooking itself or the stay-at-home dad dreaming that’s drying the waterslide?

No, it’s the cooking. It has to be, despite what various charlatans from culinary meccas may claim. For if it were not just the cooking, if it were about benevolent dominance vs kumbaya, then researchers would have to study obvious myths and it would be hard to obtain grants to research such things.

The elevation of the prophet Humpty Dumpty continues apace.

“When I use a word,” Humpty Dumpty said, in rather a scornful tone, “it means just what I choose it to mean—neither more nor less.”

“The question is,” said Alice, “whether youcan make words mean so many different things.”

“The question is,” said Humpty Dumpty, “which is to be master—that’s all.”

    “benevolent dominance vs kumbaya.”

Kumbaya is just another form of dominance which looks more benevolent but is in fact less.

My hatred of the Humpty Dumpty progressive mindset grows as does my contempt for the media that defends them and calls the game like a 1980s WWF ref.

What are you saying about the gun debate?

“Gun violence” is used to obscure the fact that we’re talking about criminals. I recently read something in from AP that covered the victims, their families, and gun violence, but never mentioned the criminal. Much as we don’t discuss that women tend to enjoy being women, we avoid discussing who is committing “gun violence.” The language is bent so as to serve the politics of whatever issue.

I abhor frankenstatistics and the blurry edges of proprietary research versus research that may actually be beneficial to society or at least generalisable in some concrete way. The more I learn about it, the more I realise how difficult this is to achieve. Research tells us ‘something’ but certainly not definitively everything. Meanwhile I will watch out for those darn murderous guns when I go outside later :-)
