Musical Interlude – the Comeback Kid edition
February 22, 2012
I enjoy ribbing SWPLs mainly because I share many of their tastes and sensibilities. Their ethos may suck, but their neighborhoods are cleaner and their liquor cabinets better stocked. Even their suicide girls are of a higher quality.
Speaking of little intros that don’t have a ton to do with what follows, what happened to Ilkka?
And with that, here is Comeback Kid by Sleigh Bells from Reign of Terror, the sophomore effort that dropped this week.
(This isn’t the first time I’ve elucidated on Sleigh Bells. Alexis is a muse. See here and especially here.)

I’m glad I’m not the only one who loves me some Sleigh Bells. I like “Comeback Kid,” but I think “End of the Line” is the best song of the album (though it doesn’t top “Rill Rill” from Treats).
By the way, are you into Cults perchance?
I actually prefer “Kids” and “Treats,” but “Rill Rill” is quite alright as well. I’m still only a few incomplete listens into “Reign of Terror.” The second half seems stronger than the first.
I haven’t heard Cults. I’ll have to check them out.
The second half of “Reign” is much better than the first. Tracks 3-6 is probably the strongest stretch of the album.
Re: Cults, “Go Outside” and “You Know What I Mean” are their strongest, most accessible tracks, and the first half of their album is better than the second half.
I had wondered about Ilkka too; I can’t find them now, but I found a couple blogs wondering the same thing, and wondering if this is a replay of when his original blog, Sixteen Volts, got shut down.
